Unreal Engine 4 - Background video for 3D Camera Tracker

Hi,
I want to use the Unreal Engine 4 in conjunction with the After Effect´s build in 3D Camera Tracker. The goal is to render objects in the Engine which match with my recorded video footage.

I did the following steps:
In After Effects I tracked my video footage. I set up a camera and exported this scene as a Cinema 4D project file. In Cinema 4D I saved my project with the camera animation as a FBX file. This file I imported into Matinee. After this I converted the Matinee sequence to a Sequencer sequence.

But I don´t know how I can import my video in the Unreal Engine as a background video to check if the matching is ok.

Best regards, Andreas

create one dome, and now, create one video texture and apply, work for me.

I guess it is a little bit more complicated. My video is 2D. I cannot match it to a dome. The video must be shown as a background in my scene. It is really important that it matches perfectly with the imported camera. At the moment the Unreal Engine 4 don’t support the insertion of a background video. I hope this feature will be added in the future…

Hi Andreas, I’m actually trying out a similar workflow. Did you figure it out yourself or did you find documentation to work these steps out, I’m currently trying to export an FBX file from the camera directly from after effects with a plugin, and am planning to go back to after effects for the compositing by rendering out my scene with alpha.

If you have more information on the import of the camera, please share, I’m getting strange (read: no) results at the moment.

TX!

Hi Williem,
unfortunately I stopped working on it. It’s too complicated. I need support from Epic to find a solution for it. The main problem is the lack of a background video option in the Unreal Engine 4.

Best regards, Andreas

Hi Andreas, I believe this Image Plate plugin is what you are looking for.
