How to make a dynamic material

Hi there,

I was watching a video on material when i came over the dynamic materials.

Could anyone help me with some tutorials or screenshots or steps of how to make such a material.

Right now i am going through the content examples UE4 project and working on parallax materials. If anyone could help me with the Dynamic materials, that would be so cool…

  1. make a basic material with some parameters

  2. In blue print, create dynamic material with the material above step, asign to a mesh actor

  3. In blue print , you can modify some parameters of the material, and the mesh actor asigned the dynamic material would show the result you modified

hi ytianlong,

Thanks for the reply…but would you be able to show me some example you have worked on…as in screenshot…

also i am adding the screenshot of what i have done…could you see and tell me if this is correct…

Hi Pragunn,

I had this issue a couple of days ago. These videos really helped me out. They are only about Sixteen minutes long but they go through the entire process. Watch part 1 and 2 for a full guide how to do it.

Hi Carcer,

Thanks for the reply…

well i had gone through the video you have shared with me above…but i was looking for something that could be done like we do for material instances where v can jus play with the values and change the looks of the material, rather than having a trigger box…

i am adding the screenshot that video which i had shared in my query…

please do help me with this…i am wondering wich window is it dat he is using…like we have symbolic representations for blueprint, materials and all…which symbol does that circle represent…

sorry for the long comment…please help me with this…

Hey,

by the looks of it, he seems to be changing the normals and the positioning of various elements within the material. The window he is using is probably a custom made one attached to the material. It is stupidly complicated and frankly I have no idea how to do it. Sorry. The things he is doing with the dynamic material are probably backed up by a hell of a lot of code.

sorry again.
Carcer

hey thanks a lot for the reply…please do ask any of your mates as well from the unreal community…cos i m a newbie here for the community…

i have been working with sme decent normals and have been plugging the bump map to the world position offset which gives a decent amount of reality to the material…however if you could help me with displacement maps dat wud b also great…i tried giving tessellation and crack free checked…but the material gets a spiky kinda feel…

Hey carcer,

could you please help me with displacement maps

Sorry, I am fairly new to Unreal myself and I don’t think I would be able to help you. Sorry

Ooh cool…thanks for your time…

If nyone out in the community could help me with the dynamic material and Displacement maps…it would so great…
