After following the ART tutorial, Why am I having a problem with my animations?

Hello, having a problem when importing character into UE4… I was following along with the tutorial on Unreal Engines YouTube channel last night.

I built my guy just like the video and imported into UE4 third person template and chose to use that existing skeleton so I could use the walk/run animations but when I actually run an animation the character like falls down with its legs and arms all pulled in…I looks horrible.

As I said I followed the tutorial…did I miss something or do something wrong? Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks for your time.

HI AlphaHemi -

This sounds like a issue of your skin weights and how your skeleton is affixed to your model. Could you upload a screenshot of the error?

Thanks

I chose the option it suggested of having the skin weight done automatically, I am new to Maya and animation so I don’t really know about skin weights. The Top Image is when I first open the skeletal mesh, the character in T pose which looks normal. The second image is what happens as soon as I run an animation.

I actually think it might be an issue of the skeletons not being the same scale perhaps. I can’t tell from looking at the image as it’s all compressed, but my guess is that having all of the dropdowns set to Animation in the skeleton tree panel is making all of the bones snap to the authored positions. You could try settings all of those to ‘Skeleton’ instead of ‘Animation’ and seeing if that helps.

Thank you for your help I changed everything to skeleton and it works perfectly now. I really appreciate your quick response to my issue, as someone new to all of this it makes me feel like UE4 was a great decision when everyone is so helpful, thank you again for all your support.
