How to emit particles controlled by a mask

Hey,

I have an object that has an (animated) black and white mask texture on it. I want to have a particle system that emits particles only on the white part of the texture, is it possible to do that? I have searched a lot on Google but can’t find a way.

My end target is to have an effect like this but have particles emit on the transition line/white mask:

Thanks

This isn’t possible in Cascade I’m afraid.

However it should be possible in our new system, Niagara.

Is Niagara fully working in 4.12.5 now or is it a future thing? Do you have any links to how I could do this if it is in there now? I couldn’t see anything to guide me when I initially looked.

Thanks

Niagara is currently in development unfortunately.
We expect to have and initial experimental version later in the year.
We have discussed this feature but it’s not been fully planned out and so I’m not sure if it will make the initial version. It will almost certainly be supported in the future though.

Thanks for the information. Its a shame it doesn’t work at the moment! I will have to try and find another way.

Kind regards
