(Mac)Viewport gizmos flickering and extreme low perfomace

I tried to install Unreal on my Macbook pro 2015 retina Iris 6300(running last update of El Captain), but what I got was extremely slow in performace and there were flickering gizmos on my screen(translate arrow, rotators, etc). I just moved on and decided thar unreal was too much for a notebook. Just yesterday I saw a classmate running unreal on her Microsft surface what got me really upset. I am wondering if this have something to do with OS and with openGL Idk… Unreal viewport is already using Metal api?

I’ve had this problem on the 4.11, 4.12, and 4.13 branches of the Unreal Editor. I’m using a rMBP Late 2013 with the nVidia GTX 750m discrete graphics chip installed. I don’t think that the rMBP is not capable (using integrated graphics or discrete). I think there are issues that are not getting addressed with each build.

U said u had this problem, so I suppose u fixed it, right? Which version re u using now?

4.13.0 - no I haven’t fixed it. I usually use a Win10/GTX970 setup for development unless there is a mobile app involved. I’d love to just use my Mac, but this issue is extremely frustrating. I’ve read that building UE4 from source code on the Mac being used can help. I’m downloading the source now and will give that a try and report if it seems to do anything.

I did that indeed, for me made no diffrence. Hope it works 4 u.

Although I was skeptical, I have just completed the build of UE 4.13.0 (hotfix source code was unavailable this morning). Sure enough, not only is the flicker gone but the performance of the editor is far better than with the shipping build.

Can confirm, here’s a video showing the issue

Have same issue here on UE 4.16.1. Let me try building it from the source.
BTW, has anyone filed a bug on this?

@Sposito: The same was happening on my windows install (as well as my mbp), and then I turned off the Viewport>Show>Anti-aliasing, and the flickering was gone.

Can you try disabling that?

I gave up on Epic long ago, I don’t even have unreal installed anymore, sorry.
