AutomationScripts does not exist

I am new to Unreal 4. I tried to package and cook one of the sample project, First Person Shooter Blueprint, but I kept getting

ScriptCompiler.LoadPreCompiledScriptAssemblies: Error: Scripts folder c:\project files\Unreal Engine\4.1 Engine\Binaries\DotNet\AutomationScripts does not exist!

I do have VS 2013 professional. I tried the First Person Shooter code sample and used command line to cook the content and got the same error.

I solved this problem by verifying the engine in the unreal engine launcher:
next to launch (4.6 for example), click the little arrow, then verify

I was having the same error and ended up in this old question. I’m answering this old question because it might help someone in the future coming here through some googling.

much appreciated; thanks!

**just to follow up:

  • I was having the same problem in UE 4.9.2 stock, I “verified” the project but it didn’t actual update/change/add any files even though there were a few missing (such as the “AutomationScripts” folder). A full re-install successfully installed the missing files, but I thought the whole point of “verify” was that it would repair missing or corrupted files, guess it’s not working as intended…

Hey kbrownski,

In order to assist you further, could you please upload your error in order to better assist you. Is this all occurring after your project has been packaged?

Looking forward to hearing back from you, thanks!
