Search help

  • Simple searches use one or more words. Separate the words with spaces (cat dog) to search cat,dog or both. Separate the words with plus signs (cat +dog) to search for items that may contain cat but must contain dog.
  • You can further refine your search on the search results page, where you can search by keywords, author, topic. These can be combined with each other. Examples
    • cat dog --matches anything with cat,dog or both
    • cat +dog --searches for cat +dog where dog is a mandatory term
    • cat -dog -- searches for cat excluding any result containing dog
    • [cats] —will restrict your search to results with topic named "cats"
    • [cats] [dogs] —will restrict your search to results with both topics, "cats", and "dogs"

OSX: Editor freezes at 10% during start

hen starting the editor, it freezes at 10%

Additional info

  • Previously able to use the editor without any issues, problem just appeared one morning

    • Occasionally it will hang at the 18% mark, but it is rare

    • Issue persists even after a full out cleanup of any related files I can find and reinstalling everything

    • Tried multiple engine versions, they all hang at the same step
      • On a very few occasions, putting the laptop to sleep, on wakeup the editor have occasionally progressed to the create a project menu

      • At this point, creating or importing a project effectively restarts the editor and once more it hangs at 10%

    • Unfortunately none of my attempts while attempting to launch my project files directly managed to launch, so I never made it trough to the editor itself

    • Launching the editor directly trough the terminal is a noop, still hangs

    • On freeze the application is unresponsive, a kill -9 is the only way to force it dead

Already been in touch with customer service trough link text with the recommendation of a clean reinstall

Hi myrsnipe,

Are you trying to use the Launcher/Binary version of the engine or Building from source? If you're building from source, be sure to build these four components in this order:

  1. ShaderCompileWorker for Development > Mac

  2. UnrealLightmass for Development > Mac

  3. CrashReporterClient for Shipping

  4. UE4 for Development Editor

If you are using the Launcher/Binary Version, navigate to this location: Users>Shared>UnrealEngine>Launcher> (double-click) Unreal Engine

Please try either of these to Launch the editor and reply with your results,

Steve H.

ps. Often deleting the DerivedDataCache folder from the install directory and letting it rebuild when launched will resolve issues on launch.

Hey Steve, thanks for the response.

I'm currently running the precompiled binaries. Launching trough the launcher, starting the app directly, by clicking on the app or by terminal all result in a freeze.

I've seen the tips on the DerivedDataCache folder and deleted it, especially so when I deleted the entire UE4 install folder, but to no avail.

At this point I'm going to try building from source and see if that helps, thanks for the pointers

Let us know if you have problems building from source.

Building from source was successful, editor is up and running.

Can't load my project tough, it has marketplace dependencies and I'm getting hit with authentication issues today, getting a waiting room failure and a WR-0001 error code during authentication. The knowledgebase / support center link it gives me doesn't include any articles on this error code.
