Material seems more glossy when reflecting from skylight

Hi,

With environment reflection, material seems more glossy on my machine, I would like to know
what should be the correct result, what is the result from your machines with the settings from the screen shot:

HDRI_Epic_Courtyard_Daylight, full sphere skylight
A Sphere + A material with (1, 1, 1, 0) base color, 1.0 metallic, 0.5 roughness
Pilot an simple actor which is at the origin

I am assuming an issue on my machine, since
The result from this machine is different:
OSX 10.11.6 + NVIDIA 750M

The other machines have the same results:
Windows 10 (bootcamp) + NVIDIA 750M
OSX 10.10.5 + AMD R9 M370X
Windows 8 (bootcamp) + AMD R9 M370X

I have tried to reinstall from scratch on OSX 10.11.6 + NVIDIA 750M, the issue still exists.

Thanks,

Yashiz

Hey Yashiz,

So I am in the process of updating our Mac for testing as ours shares the same Nvidia 750M as your machine. I did run a quick test on my end to compare the expected/correct results to what you are seeing on your end.

Windows (DX11) (SM5)

This should be how it looks in a new default scene using the Advanced_Lighting map from Starter Content. Let me know if you have further questions or need additional assistance.

Cheers,

Here is the repo case for Advanced_Lighting

  1. load Advanced_Lighting
  2. change M_Clear_Coat to:
    • BaseColor 1
    • Metallic 1
    • Roughness 0.5
    • Default Lit

Here are my results:

Windows (bootcamp) + NVIDIA 750M

OSX 10.11.6 + NVIDIA 750M

You can see the left most sphere is quite different.
The default material settings in this scene are not easy to distinguish the difference. The issue looks like the roughness is scaled by 0.5

Thanks for the clear and precise repro steps. I was able to confirm what you are reporting and have gone ahead and entered a bug report for the issue. You can track the issue following the link below on our new Public Issues Tracker.

UE-36811

Once the issue has been addressed by our engineers, the fix will be added to the release notes for fixed issues within an upcoming full engine or hotfix release.

Let me know if you have further questions or need additional assistance.

Cheers,
