Running Unreal Engine with Xcode Freezes My Computer (OS X El Capitan)

Greetings Community,

I apologize in advanced. For i’m new to the Unreal Engine and it’s community.

I’m currently going through an issue where for what ever reason, I’m not able to have the Unreal Engine, and Xcode running at the same time. I tried a variance of ideas to narrow down which could be causing the problem. Unreal by itself seems to work fine. and Xcode by itself seems to work fine. I noticed that when i open the UE project with Xcode it uses up a significant amount of recourses i.e CPU at 80% and memory usage is about 75%. But then it decreases back to normal. and same goes for Unreal. But if I have them open at the same time, Xcode and unreal together will take a significant amount of resources, but will not return to normal. I have 16Gb of ram, and when these applications are running at the same time, i notice my memory availability goes down to like 500mb and continues to drop until my computer becomes completely out of resources and renders it useless until I hard reset the machine.

Any ideas on what could be causing this?

Hello little ,

I would suggest taking a look at this post as there is currently an issue on Apple’s side that is causing XCode 8 to use up a lot of memory. There is a fix coming in a future update from Apple but there is a temporary fix listed there in the meantime

Hey Mr. Clark,

I’ve been away on business so i haven’t had a chance until now to look at any replies. just wanted to thank you for the quick reply, this did fix my issue. hopefully apple releases a new build of xcode soon. Thanks.

Sincerely,
.
