How do I fix light flickering artifacts on my characters

How do I fix light flickering artifacts on my characters? my characters get some strange flashing flickering light on their surface, looks a lot like Z-Fighting.

It happens when the directional light is set to stationary, when I set it do dynamic or static the artifacts disappear.

Here’s a video of the issue.

Fixed by toggling Dithered LODTransition on (off by default) on the character material, can someone elaborate on what this does and if it really is the proper way to fix this issue? Don’t want a side effect of this “fix” to bite me later down the line. Still pretty new to Unreal Engine.
