Steam Release

Hello everyone,

These are a few quick question for game developers who have released on Steam and gone through the Greenlight process.

When should you release your game to Greenlight? Examples: Beta stage, Alpha stage, 50% complete, 100% complete.

(I know you should have screenshots, description, and possibly a trailer prepared for the Greenlight release.)

Also what would be the best deadline to set before the release to Greenlight and you’re accepted?

Thanks for your help!

there are 2 options, you can put a concept or a playable game in steam greenlight

you can send a concept if you are looking for help and opinions from community, you should do this in the planning stage, before actually developing the game, this will help you to see if people are interested in the game you want to make and look for suggestions to improve it (this won’t make get your project get a greenlight, it will just help you plan what to do)

but to get the “greenlight” to actually put your game on steam you should have a playable version of your final game, i can’t say exactly “50%” or “100%”, it deppends, for example you want to make a game with 25 levels, the first 15 levels are done, all the rest is also done, you can put the game in greenlight, you have a playable version of it and you can show how your game will be with the first 15 levels, so would be ok to put it in to greenlight, you can also polish your animations, change the damage of a weapon, add more soundtrack etc.
it’s kinda subjective, but when you put your game in greenlight it don’t have to be the full game, you can still improve it, but it have to be good enough to convince people to approve your game, and the community can be harsh sometimes, in other way after getting the greenlight to launch your game you don’t have a limit of time to publish it, you can take as long as you want to finish it, so you don’t need to wait it to be 100% either, you just need to be sure that what you have is enough to please the community, if you are not sure what will or not be enought to get a greenlight, start watching the games in greenlight, see which ones are accepted and which ones are not.

Thank you for the advice. This helped me a lot.
