Layered material use opacity?

I am trying to create a layered material combining several material functions, like described in the tutorials.

Now, one of my materials should have parts that you can look through. With normal materials I can use my mask in the opacity mask slot and everything is fine, but with material functions and my layered material it just looks deep black!

Am I missing something here?

Thanks for any help!

There should be no differences between how masked materials function for a regular or blended material, so it is most likely something different about how you are combining the masks or passing the single opacity mask. Without seeing a screenshot of the problem or the node network I am afraid it will be very difficult to suggest a solution. Could you by any chance upload an image of how the opacity is derived and connected from the functions?

Hey Ryan,

thanks for helping out. I am attaching images of a simple example, maybe this will help. I am pretty sure I am just missing something, but I have no idea what it might be.

I got transparency to work, when I change the Blend Mode of the material to translucent, but Masked won’t work somehow.

What I’d like to be able to do is have an Object that is fully opaque and then be able to blend it over is sort of a hologram style transparent object. I had hoped that I’d be able to blend between two different Materials with different blending modes by using a mask, but I guess this is not possible. Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong!

Thanks!!
