Is Intel HD Graphics 6000 graphics processor OK?

I want to buy a MacBook Air with i7, 8GB RAM, and a Intel HD Graphics 6000 graphics processor.

Can I run latest version of Unreal Game Engine on this?

Can I also do VR development with a Intel HD Graphics 6000??

IMPORTANT, I need to know before buying …

Most likely you will be able to work with UE4, but for sure it will far from comfortable. I would strongly advise going for discrete video card.

Hello,

I have the following experience:

I am developing one project for both the Windows and the iOS. The main development is done from the Windows machine but sometimes, the version from Windows doesn’t work on the iOS so I have to do some changes directly on the OS X machine - which for me is MacBook Pro with i7 2,5 GHz and AMD Radeon R9 M370X.

The processor is probably about the same but the graphic card is stronger (correct me if I’m wrong). I can run the Unreal Editor without any troubles - the frame rate in the scene view is solid - in reasonably complex scenes and the overall performance is nice…

…BUT after like 10 minutes of work, the Mac heats up very much. The panel above the keyboard (where the exhaust is hidden) becomes almost untouchable and the fan becomes very very loud. For me, this is not really an issue but it depends on you, if you are willing to keep your device under such a high stress for a long time - which definitely reduces the life spawn of the device.

I cannot tell you whether the Mac is capable of VR development but since developing / running VR is generally more demanding then normal applications, I would guess it will be very difficult or even impossible with the MacBook Pro and the more with the MacBook Air.

I am strongly recommending getting a much powerful machine.

I run it flawlessly, on my MacBook Air 2017 with the my i7 processor and the Intel HD Graphics 6000 1536 MB!
