MMO: Meshed Server Setup
I was wondering if it would be possibly to have a meshed server setup to try and have a "single instanced" MMO. I'm imagining something similar to a wifi meshed network. The client would then receive information from multiple servers at once but would be attached to a single server. As the player moved throughout the map, it would be pushed towards a different server.
The reason I would want a setup like is to try to increase player density. Allowing more than 64 players to interact with each other. Something more along the lines of 320. Now I understand this brings up a whole slew of other problems on the rendering side of things for a client and not to mention trying to maintain a consistent game state would be a nightmare.
I'm purely just wondering if it would be POSSIBLE to even have multiple servers work together on a single game state. If we dumb-ed this down to just two servers working together to allow 100 players to be in or edit the same game state while each server manages 50 players.
I hope I don't come off as a mad scientist or a complete idiot. I'm just theory crafting at this point.
