Why do deleted Content Browser folders reappear?

Hi, When I delete a folder in content browser a redirector will be created and I have only one map. Why does this happen? There is nothing “old” who needs to know new location(only one map).
After a restart of UE4, deleted folders with redirectors reappear in content browser. It is realy annoying. How can i delete folders for ever? “Fixup Redirectors in Folder” doesnt help, and I dont want to experiment with manual deletion in explorer.

Hey EternalWalker,

Did you rename folder or any files inside that folder before deleting it? If so, it might be one of our known issues with Redirectors, mentioned here:

Try doing Fixup and then deleting folder, then close/reopen project and see if that works.

thanks for your fast answer. I used Fixup many times, but it doesn’t help.

Example:

Folder named “Character”, I rename it to “Characters” and then i have two folders. One folder Character with empty sub-folders and one folder Characters with all assets. And if i want to delete Character folder UE4 thinks assets still exists in the “Character” folder and i can only delete it with force-delete. Then i save Content Browser and use Fixup. After that i can delete the “Character” folder. But when I restart editor Character folder with sub-folders reappear.
same happens if I move a folder to a different location.

(my project location: C:\GameDev\UnrealProjects )

Can you try it again, this time doing a Fixup before your deletion? Thanks!

I did Fixup before and after deletion. I can reproduce this bug. When i use ThirdPerson-C+±Template and move textures folder to another location, Textures folder stays at its location and i create a new folder with moved assets at desired location. Its weird. And i dont know how to delete Textures folder at old location.

Maybe UE4 needs some rights? Maybe he cant delete this stuff? Or a problem with redirectors?

I think it has something to do with that: redirectors doesnt disappear and content-explorer shows all folders with files. And i cant see redirectors in content browser. result is, that i have old empty folders, which reappear every time UE4 checks project folder structure.

Or maybe it has something to do with blueprints/materials, all stuff that needs to be compiled. redirector doesnt disappear because blueprint only knows old location?

Maybe move this to bug reports section?

Hey EternalWalker,

Sorry for delay in response. There is a bug in our database that involves redirectors requiring two Fixups before they can be deleted and I thought that may have been what you were running into here, but it looks like this might be a separate bug. I will enter a new bug for folders remaining after deletion. In meantime, only way you’ll be able to remove folder will be to find it in Explorer and delete it manually. Just be sure that you’ve removed all references beforehand!

Best,

Any updates on this? Got same problem. Deleted folders are automatically restored after each project load (fix redirections didn’t change anything)?

Its not fixed. folders doesnt get deleted in windows explorer. This causes reappearance of folders in ue4. I need to delete this manually. Really anoying to keep project clean.

Sorry, no update yet. bug is still open in our system (UE-11796). I’ll post here when I see any change.

I have exact same issue. Any movement on this?

Sorry, nothing yet.

Put me on list too, I’m also getting this bug…

+1, got same issue.

We all got same) always…

+1 same issue in multiple projects. Bug still exists in 4.9.2 even after multiple “Fix Up Redirectors in Folder”, and multiple editor restarts.

4.10 and bug still alive. I guess it’s some kinda core feature now…

Any news on that? 4.11 and still renaming or removing folders is a bizzare hardcore thing…

There is no update at this time.

Hi,

Had same problem. Go into your project folder. Mine is in MyDocuments on my Windows machine.
You should see that folder you are trying to get rid of in there.
Delete it.
Now launch your Unreal engine again, open your project in it and it should be gone

Deleting folders worked for me, thanks.
