UE4 Editor bug

I found bug. Sometimes occurs on right or bottom screen. Attaching screenshot.

Hi Damianno,

I was unable to reproduce your issue so I’m going to need a bit more information before I can continue.

  1. was this bug occurring in a clean FPS Blueprint template project? If so could you provide your DxDiag (I will provide steps at bottom).
  2. If this issue requires steps to reproduce in a blank/template project could you please list them so that I can reproduce this on my end.
  3. Just to clarify is the bug the various colored lights on the right side of the screen? Could you specify what exactly is the issue or have a screenshot of what your project is supposed to look like.

Notes on how to get DxDiag

  1. open your command prompt and enter dxdiag
  2. When the window appears save all information
  3. Attach the generated file in this post.

  2. As I wrote, this bug occurring completely randomized. Sometimes It occurs after a few minutes, sometimes after a few hours I don’t have idea how reproduce this bug

3 Yes, I meant the various lights. Attaching screenshot.

Best regards.

Apologies for bad English

I ran a compatibility test on a similar machine and couldn’t reproduce this issue.

First, update your drivers for your GPU just to see if that helps.

If not I will write a bug report (JIRA).

What I need at this point in order to log a JIRA is just a bit more information.

  1. Can you describe what the colored lights do when they appear. For example do they flash on and off, stay the same, grow brighter over time? Just describe how the lights behave.
  2. Does this bug occur while playing as well? I see that it happens while editing but does it happen in other situations like a packaged game or in standalone.
  3. Please confirm if this issue appears in 4.12 and also check 4.14 preview if possible.

We have not heard back from you in a few days, so we are marking this post as Resolved for tracking purposes. If you are still experiencing the issue you reported, please respond to this message with additional information and we will follow up.

Hi,
I didn’t have any free time.
Actually testing 4.14. In the few days I will write if the bug occurs, or not. If this bug didn’t occur in 4.14, or update drivers resolved problem, do i have to write more information on bug?

Best regards.

What video card do you have?

It is written in dxdiag
R9 380 2GB

All I need is the following information:

  • Can you describe what the colored lights do when they appear. For example do they flash on and off, stay the same, grow brighter over time? Just describe how the lights behave.

  • Does this bug occur while playing as well? I see that it happens while editing but does it happen in other situations like a packaged game or in standalone.

  • Please confirm if this issue appears in 4.12 and also check 4.14 and let me know if it happens in either of those versions at all.

Once I know that I can make the bug report to the developers. Just comment here and I will get a notification.

Hi,

  1. I think the easiest way is to attach few films. There were lights that look similarly, but scaling viewport makes them disappear. When there is no matinee / sequencer in running project colored lights they are the same all the time, but when stopped project colored lights sometimes change, sometimes they don’t. Very interesting is that when I switch from fullscreen mode, to standard the lights disappear ( attach video).

  2. I used option “snandalone” very rarely.
In the games using UE4 bug is not occur. ( squad, adr1ft etc).

  3. In 4.14 bug is occur, but the driver did not update. In a few days I will be reinstalling Windows.

When I disable lens flair, bug still occurs.

Sorry to keep asking things of you, but could you also disable bloom.

No problem

When I turn off bloom, bloom and lens flares, or all post processing options bug still occurs.
After reinstalling OS, also after installing the newest drivers ( 16.11.4 ), bug still occurs.

After looking at your screen shots it seems apparent that you only turned off those effects in your viewport. When you play the cinematic the camera has it’s own set of postprocessing settings that you need to disable.

Make sure that you go into the camera being used and check its settings.

My bad.
When I disable post process volume, bug still occurs.
Cameras have all post processing options disabled as well.

Image

Sorry, I wasn’t clear enough. There actually is a postprocess that is attached to the camera that is active by default. If you want to override the camera’s postprocess then enable the global post process and make it unbound. Make sure it has a very high priority (higher than the camera’s built in postprocess).

Then disable lensflare and bloom by setting intensity to 0. Look at screenshot.

I set as it is on screenshot, and nothing new, bug still occurs.

Did you make sure that the post process you edited was enabled and unbound?

If so this is a very serious issue. This would suggest a hardware problem with your gpu. If possible I would recommend swapping out your card with a different one to see if the problem persists. I’ve searched through our data base and didn’t find any issues like yours.

This seems to be unique to you and I cannot reproduce the issue.

Previously, I had this option off (unbound).
So, when I enabled this option, bug didn’t occur.

If important, I tested 4.11.2, 4.10.4, 4.9.2 and bug didn’t occur.

Video

When i set post processing quality to low in version 4.14, bug didn’t occur.
Of course I tested all on demo “particle effects” without any changes.

I can’t swap my GPU.

EDIT

When I enabled “Forward Shading” bug didn’t occur.

I have one question. When I clicked to particle effects, or decal change color to yellow. It’s normal? ( version 4.14 )

Images

No, but that depends. The transfrom widget can cause glowing if your auto exposure is adjusted to a dark environment and you highlight an object for example.

The best way to determine if this is a bug with the engine is to open a blank project > migrate the particles in your screenshot to this project > Select the particle system and see if it still turns yellow/orange.

That will ensure you don’t have project settings or postprocess settings that may interfere with the visuals.

I highly advise against using showcase projects to test for bug since there is so much going on. It’s best to isolate and simplify issues down as much as possible.

If the issue persists please create a new bug post with the title “Selecting Assets Make Them Glow Yellow” and link it here.

The reason being is this post is getting very cluttered and if you are reporting new issues it is best to move those out so others can find the same problem and get help.
