Why does it take ages to start & load with my i5 6600K?

Using Squad SDK in Epic Games launcher, it takes 10-20 minutes only to start the SDK with my i5 6600K (stock clocks).

Then another 10-20 minutes to open a level.

I asked sb with an i5 3570K and he only takes 3-4 minutes for each step.

Please optimize UE4 for i5 6600K or explain what is causing this (could SDK be running an earlier UE version which hasn’t the optimizations that the latest UE has?)

That dosnt make any kind of sense. Im moore worried that you have some serious issue with your computer. Does any games or other software do this?

No, not any.

Ok here the file.link text

Hello FHDanielNL,

If you believe this is related to this computer’s hardware, could you post your entire DX Diag? The processor isn’t the only component that affects loading speeds when it comes to the editor as it is also affected by your RAM and compiling shaders is affected by your GPU.

Do you only experience these long load times with the maps provided in the Squad SDK? These are likely complex maps and would require long loading times, especially the first time.

Thank you for that information. Everything seems up to the task and I agree that you likely shouldn’t be having such long load times. Unfortunately, we do not provide direct support for these modding tools. To get support with the Squad development kit, it would be best to either refer to their wiki or speak to them through their official Discord channel.

If this does end up being related to the engine as a whole rather than just their development kit, please let me know and I’ll continue to assist.

I just discussed it, DEFINITELY UE4 problem with either i5 6600K or my special RAM setup: 2x8 + 2x2 GB (20 GB), maybe UE4 is messing up RAM usage? Or problem with i5 6600K?

Have you tried using our base editor without the Squad SDK? The only way to know if this is a RAM issue would be for you to check the RAM usage when it is occurring. You can check this through the Task Manager, as well as your disk/CPU usage. I can’t see those specifics and we haven’t had reports of problems with either of these setups.

Nope haven’t downloaded the UE currently… And I can’t, my SSD is full (where my launcher and SDK are) and iirc UE4 DEVs haven’t thought about it and there is currently no way to install the engine on a different drive than the launcher is? (Or install the launcher a 2nd time on a different drive, so that there are 2 launchers on the system?)

I believe the first time you install something through the launcher, you’re given the option to pick a directory but it will continue to use that directory from then on. I will say however, after having the Launcher on my SSD and then moving it to my HDD due to space reasons on my work PC, I haven’t noticed a single difference in performance. Disk usage isn’t usually the bottleneck so you likely wouldn’t see much of a difference, if any.

I’ve not heard of such a bug. If you’d like to see if it still exists, you can search through our public bug database here. The database includes open and closed bugs so you should be able to find anything that has been reported there.

Well there was (or still is?) a bug in UE4 where when “undo” option, the program would freeze and terrible big read/write process would be on HDD…

Ok tested without the 2x2 RAM, here my results:

Ha Shadowplay caused it. It’s alright now!

Ah glad to hear it.
