Normal maps not used for static lighting?

Use Normal Maps for Static Lighting is checked, but results look same as without it. Mesh has averaged normals.
What am i missing?

Hi Ichijo,

That setting shouldn’t need to be enabled unless you have specific content that is developed with a specific intent.

An example of this would be a case where the normal map contains macro information, instead os using the tiling details. If you have a cube with all faces in one smoothing group, but then render out a normal map to achieve the sharp faces. This setting lets Lightmass know about the normal map to reconstruct that as a cube with sharp faces.

From your screenshots, the “lighting only” view mode doesn’t show detail information from the normal map and the last few images are just low lightmap resolution on the floor/wall geometry.

Lighting only view mode is showing meshes without normal maps applied to them. You described cube example, same applies to that mesh on screenshot, it has one smoothing group and a normal map to compensate it. On last 3 screenshots there is static lighting with that setting enabled before baking. It seems that im not getting expected behavior for that setting.

To be clear, problem is appearing on table mesh. Here is detail lighting of dynamic point light vs static. With static lighting table mesh is lit as if it had no normal map to correct its single smoothing group.
