When importing a decimated mesh, why does the vert count double or triple?

When I import the mesh, vertices count doubles or triples, can i prevent that to happen?
I am importing a decimated mesh as FBX.

What programs are you using specifically in your workflow? From hearing decimated mesh, is it something like creating the highpoly in Zbrush, decimating it, and then export?

Tried with other meshes and it doesn’t have to be decimated, when exporting obj files vertices count becomes 5 times more, with fbx it becomes 2-3 times more.

Could you post a screenshot of the vertex count before export and another screenshot of it after export?
