Nw Project empty! How to create custom Starter Pack?

Hi! Im new to this and spent a week and half looking at a bunch of tutorials, learning how to handle the engine monster, and most of all, gathering free and nice assets all over the web, blogs, marketplace, etc.

Now, I’m ready to go : Having a 6.3G custom assets folder, a real nice collection… so far… so good!

  1. To test out some news assets I freshly downloaded, I tried to drag&drop them in my project content folder. When reopening, my project processed them; Magic, simple. (I know we can import each file one by one using the content browser, but what a pain)

  2. So I created my own FullAssetsCollection main folder, in which even some useful starter content is. Created a new project, saved&closed it. I drag&dropped my 6.3G folder in the content folder. When reopening, none of my assets were recognized, I have no starter content either.

  3. I managed to put my FullAssetsCollection into : C:\Program Files (x86)\Epic Games\4.14\Samples\StarterContent\Content. There, I have now 2 folders : FullAssetsCollection and StarterContent. But now. when creating a blank project, I see only one folder which is empty; no StarterContent and no Collection at all, which is weird cause creating a blank project takes a lot more time!!! I thought that the engine would pick the StarterContent somehwere when you create a new project, and figured it out it was there.

  4. Now, it seems I don’t have any content anymore. Importing each assets one by one is inhuman. Is there a way we can create our custom starter pack on each new project? Is there a way I can get back any useful content?

Thanx for your time and I hope I was clear enough. I lost any content on new project and can’t find how to import my custom assets as a bundle, as a part of the new project process.

Hi D4rkh0bb1T,

What you are trying to do is possible, but the Editor may not show the content the first time the new project is opened. I ran some tests using some of the Infinity Blade asset packs that are available on the Marketplace, and I found that there were problems if I put them all into a single folder and then placed that folder into the folder containing the Starter Content as you described in your post. However, if I placed each individual asset pack (four in total) into the folder containing the Starter Content, then I could get the assets to appear in the Editor. I just needed to restart the Editor after it opened for the first time in order to see everything. Once I had restarted the Editor, all of the Infinity Blade assets, as well as the Starter Content assets, appeared in the Content Browser.

Try placing your individual asset pack folders into the folder that contains the Starter Content, then create a new project using Starter Content. Once the Editor opens the project for the first time, close and restart the Editor and see if all of your content appears.
