After updating our VR game to 4.14 (from 4.13) we are experiencing massive frame rate loss when we are playing in VR preview and there are particle effects on screen; these frame rate drops were not present when using the VR preview in 4.13.
There’s 3 main particle effects, all fairly simple (see image above) there’s a particle system in the volcano to emit smoke, and there’s two particle systems in the waterfall, one for vapour and one for the water droplets.
The Volcano has the most complex particle system, however it is still very simple (see image below).
All of the particle effects in this demo are GPU Sprites.
The testing machine specification is as follows:
CPU; i7-4790 (3.60GHz)
RAM: 16Gb
GPU: GTX 1080 founders edition
Motherboard: H81M-P33
OS: Windows 10 Enterprise 64bit
Direct X: DirectX 12
VR: HTC (retail)
