Crashing.200+ times, losing work. Unable to restore with backups

I’m under the impression that UE4 is a AAA engine, yet my workflow requires me to backup my entire project every 30 minutes or so. Just now I failed to do that and I lost the last 8 hours of work because despite cycling out my backups, deleting intermediate and saved files, verifying the engine, it seems to be completely unable to load anything from the last 8 hours - despite there being no compile errors until the crash happens.

It’s completely reasonable that the engine would have a problem compiling a blueprint, but that should not prevent the editor from opening. It creates a chick-egg scenario when there is a problem with a BP but the user can’t actually do anything about it and the in-game compiler/mapcheck shows nothing wrong with it.

As of now, I’ve submitted 211 crash reports for the same two types of crashes in not even 30 days.

Hang: Loading halts at 93% for eternity
Crash1: Upon Load, crash. Provide useless information
For this I try to cycle backups. If I am lucky then I can roll back a blueprint to a different timestamp. Occasionally this works once but then I quit and reload to check again - and it will crash.
Crash2: Engine Crash every ~30 minutes or less. See screenshot timestamps of crashlogs

At this point I’m happy to submit the broken project to Epic staff if anyone is up to look at it, and I can include all the backups from today but I seriously don’t know what to do when I can’t even get into the editor to begin with.

Is there anything I can do other than continue to submit crash logs?

Once you remove some bad wording I’ll approve your post.

fixed the words

Hi ,

I’m closing this as a duplicate of the AnswerHub post, Please help me resolve these constant crashes,
where I have provided the Fix Commits from Github as this is the resolution for the latest crashes reported from your machine.

As far as recovering your files, you can try deleting the DerivedDataCache folder from the install directory as well as deleting the Intermediate, Config, and Saved folders from your project folder. However, if you have not made a back up, there is not much more you can do.

That said, if you’d like me to take a look and see if I can open your file and save out a working copy, you can send a link to your zipped project from a site like Dropbox or similar to me on our .
