Editor Crash after being an Inactive Window

Hi there, I’ve been asked to report this as a bug on the answerhub here.

Whilst using the Editor (version 4.14) it’s quite common that after alt-tabbing or minimising it, or simply using another application where the Editor becomes the program running in the background / not the primary window. I would return to the editor and find that it had frozen.

No buttons are interact able and a force-close has to be done to resolve the issue via the Task Manager. It’s not possible to submit a bug report through the standard editor-crashing methods as the program has to be manually closed via Task Manager.

Hi MIWI,

Can you provide more information about when this crash occurs so that we can try to reproduce it on our end? For instance, approximately how many and what additional programs do you have open. (ie. Maya, Photoshop, Windows Media Player…)

Can you reproduce this with one of our Blank Blueprint Projects open with minimal custom assets? -Does this only occur with your own custom project?

Also, please provide as many of the following as possible:

  1. Your dxdiag (Windows Start Button>(search “dxdiag”)>Launch dxdiag>select “Save all information”>attach text file to your post.)
  2. I realize you said that Crash Reporter window is not present when the crash occurs but if you experience another crash where this does appeare, select “Copy Callstack to the Clipboard,” and paste that information in a document and add to this post. Be sure to hit “Submit” on the Crash Reporter pop-up to send the Crash Report to Epic.
  3. “UE4.log” Located: Engine\Saved\Logs\
  4. “ProjectName.log” Located: ProjectName\Saved\Logs\

Providing this information and the appropriate logs will help us track down and isolate the source of the bug as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Thanks for your cooperation,

.

Hi ,

Thanks for the response, I’ll try what you have suggested with the recently updated 4.14 and see if I can replicate it once again and get back to you on here.

Thank you.

Hi ,

I’ve ran various tests now with a varying amount of programs running. Currently I’m able to have Marmoset Toolbag 3 open, the Unreal Editor, Maya, iTunes, Substance Painter and a few browser tabs and the engine works perfectly!

I think 4.14.1’s update did the trick!

Thanks for your help!

Same here.
Unreal Editor 4.24.3.
Windows 10.
No app running, only Unreal Editor and browser (google chrome).
Minimize Unreal Editor and after a while, this stops responding.
