4.14.1 Speedtree Billboard uses wrong material

When importing a Speedtree model asset, with geometry set to ‘Both’, to import both 3D LODs and Billboards, the material for the Billboard LOD is being set to (what I assume is) material ID 0, rather then the intended billboard material ID.

This all worked fine in builds prior to 4.14.

This happens with purchased tree assets straight from Speedtree.com, and I’ve re-downloaded a model to check I don’t have out of date file types/data, and this issue still happens.

This issue also applies to Speedtrees that are already implemented on a project that has been upgraded to 4.14. So if I have imported a tree correctly in 4.13, then update the project to 4.14, then the billboard material issue appears.

The material ID can be manually changed to use the correct material, so this isn’t the end of the world, but is another worrying issue with the stability of 4.14.

Hey Gavin1969,

Thanks for the clear and precise repro steps. I was able to confirm what you are reporting and have gone ahead and entered a bug report for the issue. You can track the report following the link below on our public issues tracker.

Once the issue has been addressed by our engineers the ticket will be updated and reflected in the public tracker. Let me know if you have further questions or need additional assistance.

Cheers,

Just to confirm that this is still happening in the 4.14.3 update, even though other material fixes have been applied to other (crash) issues.

The issue is not slated to be fixed until 4.15. You can see this by going to the link I provided in my answer and look at the target fix field.

Thanks,

H.
