AutomationTool for cooking crashes

I try to cook my game and the automation tool crashes with the following error stack. I have been working on this cooking thing for days now and the cookingprocess keeps crashing.
I am desperate right now since it looks like I wasted a year of work if this can not be done and I can not ship to players.

  • Is this happening in every project that you try to package?
  • Have you tried deleting your Intermediate and Saved folder from the project?
  • Did you recently update your project from 4.13 to 4.14?
  • Have you tried 4.14.1?

Always create a COPY when you move your project in between versions, never convert them.

It does not happen in a new project. I know it has something to do with some stuff in my project, but with what? That’s my problem. If there was a decent error message instead of just a crash I would fix it.
I just recently installed 14.1 and then I uninstalled everything and re-installed 14.1 from scratch to make sure it’s nothing with an old installation.
I did not try to cook before I had 14.0 so I dont know if it would have worked in version 13 but my guess is not since I get a lot of these errors.
I was able to trace one down to the use of an external DLL, not the DLL itself because it runs in the editor, just the mere call to the DLL caused the cooking tool to crash.
I rewrote the DLL now to be a static link library since I figured that DLLs are useless anyway when you have only one instance in memory, but now I’m getting the above error when cooking
Again, the project works well in the the editor, just the cooking system crashes.

I don’t doubt that it is something in my project that makes it crash but the points here are:
A) what is it that makes it crash so that I can change it
B) It shouldnt crash in the fuirst place but give me a meaningful error message instead.

Right now I am really at loss what to do and I am considering “cooking” by hand somehow, just ship the uasset files somehow. I need this program to go to my players and right now I have no other idea how to do that

Do you have any play sound on hit nodes or any spawn sound attached nodes in your blueprints by any ? I see a bug that looks very similar to the crash that you’re experiencing.

No, I only have a few sound volumes in a level for ambient noise. Also there is no crash popup. the file you mention does not exist anymore but there is another one from the same sort of error that I posted as an answer below

I did fix the problem now for me. I had to rewrite a DLL that contains my basic tools as a static link library because any call into that DLL would cause an error of the tool with error code 3 at pack time. After that I got error messages with (Unknown Cooking Error 25). I also had to create a completely new project and then migrate my assets over in chunks and recreate all the editor and project settings by hand.
Now I have a project that can at least be packed.
