Importing Vehicle- Could Not Find Bind Pose

Hi all

I’m looking for help regarding importation of a rigged vehicle into Unreal. I found solutions relating to bipedal meshes and figure modes in max, but since my rig is not bipedal and that of a car, the options that I need to select do not show.

This series of screenshots shows my process:

As you can see, after displaying the error Unreal imports the model as flat as a pancake and I don’t know how to solve it.

If anyone can spare some advice or ideas it would be greatly appreciated. This is my first attempt at importing a rigged asset.

If it is of any relevance, each wheel has a bone assigned to it as well as one for the main body (as in the first image).

Try these steps to see if it fixes the problem.

  1. Your car needs to be one mesh (the wheels and chassis need to be one object) (side note: you wouldn’t do this if you intend to swap the wheels with other assets. In that case you export the wheel separately) skin each wheel bone to only control its wheel.

  2. Make sure your scale is 100,100,100 before skinning.

  3. when you import in, make sure there are no files of your previous failed attempts, this can confuse the engine when bringing in assets of the same name. Clear that data before exporting+importing again until you get it right.

  4. Don’t import animations, you only want to create the skeletal rig, animations should come in separately.
