Since updating to 4.14.1 engine freezes during gameplay, no error message generated

Since I updated to 4.14.1 the engine crashes whenever I try to test out gameplay in the viewport, but no error message is generated, so no bug report is being sent back to Epic. I really don’t know how to drill down and find a solution if there’s no error message being generated. The screen just freezes, and the entire interface becomes unresponsive.

The problem seems to be connected to my “landscape grass type”, because any levels without it work just fine.

Hi aaron_saluk,

Please provide a little more information about the crash… Was this a project that you started in an earlier version of the Engine and updated to UE4.14? If so, did you open a copy of the original project or did you write over the original?

Are you using a custom “landscape grass type” or an Epic asset that we have on hand to test here? If custom, please provide a link to the zipped custom asset via Dropbox, Google drive etc, to me on our .

In the meantime, you could try right-clicking the Contents folder in the Content Browser and selecting “Fix up redirectors in folder.”

Please provide the requested information above and we will continue to investigate.

Thanks,

.

That’s the fbx file for the blade of grass that I’m using for my custom “landscape grass type”. Please tell me if it doesn’t download properly. I’m not sure what you meant by posting it to the “”, is that this post?

I did update my original project to 4.14.1 from an earlier version, so it’s not a copy.

There were a number of landscape bug fixes in UE4.14 which may not be strictly compatible with the 4.13.2 version of your project you are upgrading from, less so if your upgrading from an even earlier version.

As a rule of thumb, if you do not need to update your project to the latest version you should stay in the version you started in unless you need a bug fix or a new feature from the latest version. At that point, you would open a copy of your original so you have a working copy should you run into a conflict with the latest version.

That said, if you want to send a copy of your project, click on the “Forum” link above, look up my name, and send a link to your zipped project on Dropbox or Google drive:

In the meantime I’ll see if I can recreate the crash with the grass asset you’ve already provided. -Thanks.

I’ve uploaded my project to google drive, and I’ve found your profile on the , I just can’t seem to figure out how to send you the link, where do I click? I added you as a friend, because I don’t know what other options there are that I can access.

I ended up deleting my “persistent level”, since I was using level streaming, and I reimported all of the terrain height maps. Since doing this, the engine crashes have stopped.
