[] Epic Game Launcher (Marketplace)

**This is an old thread… Since nothing has changed there is a project I am working on: GitHub - AchetaGames/Epic-Asset-Manager: A frontend to Assets purchased on Epic Games Store **

I know this has been asked before and I know the answer that there is no solution at the moment. I just want to stress out how important this is to the entire community of people actually trying to do this under .

As far as I know using a different OS is the only way to get the assets we buy or get for free(in most cases I guess) from the Marketplace. Or assets from the Learn tab.

We DO need the Epic Games Launcher or a different way to work with the Marketplace. Migrating assets, plugins and others from a different OS is not a solution for everybody.

I am not coming with only request here. I do hope that people who want to work with UE under would back me up here and are some of the more willing people to give a helping hand with stuff. Give us something even if it is not working at the moment and we will make it work so everybody can enjoy the full experience.

This post might end up in oblivion but I want to express a desire from the community to have the same possibilities as if we come from other platforms. Lets make not only the target of the engine created content but also the source.

Edit: Just as a sort of a poll, I might be digging my own grave here:), upvote the question if this is genuinely desired.

I recently has problems with bying under

I would love to see more support. Been using for servers since 2001. Would be nice to go game dev on it as well.

I just logged into irc and asked this. I wish there was a solution.

I have to agree, that it would be nice to have at least a working launcher, We can compile the engine ourselves. and a lot of us do so.

Honestly, I would be completely off of windows as an OS if I didn’t need access to the launcher to download marketplace content.

Years are going, but problem still exists :frowning:
imho its not a small problem, community is as important as others… (if not more important).
i cant download substance plugin. Through vbox launcher doesnot start. (because of graphics)…

+1 to cpyarger

imho it will be fastest and simplest solution for now…

Best regards,
Giorgi Ghambashidze (ghambo)

i dont know no programing languages, but logically i think that, it can be possible to execute some script from launcher and make possible to download Marketplace content on …
sorry for my bad English, but i hope you understand what i mean

Best wishes,
ghambo

i found solution: download plugin from allegorithmic forum, remove intermediate and Binaries directories, place into Engine/Plugins/Runtime/ directory and recompile from source

best wishes, ghambo

Still needed today

This would be nice Epic. I don’t understand why people can’t have some way to access the marketplace. Is it that you just don’t want our money?

What do you do once you have it downloaded elsewhere? Import and that’s it?

Good luck, Epic doesn’t give a sh*t about .

id love to see something here thanks

For what it’s worth, our game developed on has been shipping to users for a year, so it is definitely supported. You just can’t download marketplace assets on (though people have tinkered with that on the forums).

Epic claims that is supported

Reality → It is not supported!

Instead of fixing things, and or really support things that are advertised as working/supported but not even close to it in reality, Epic tends to ignore the problems entirely and make new useless features.

I would call it “1/8 supported then” → you have to build the build from source,
it will have errors and crashes on load… after 2-3 weeks of fighting both UE4 and C++ compiler you will finally get the editor… Thats not how “Supported should be”.

I would agree there are dozen of repos and what not,
but lets agree that Ubuntu is a mainly used one for development.

epic could show some support for atleast Ubuntu

I don’t know how is it magically works for you,
for me Release 4.19 was never working… Editor is crashing on load and what not.

It actually did never run on Ubuntu for some reason → it did work on Mint.
Then I had a package problems.

Cross compile → I also tried it → the game did compile and package, but it couldn’t launch on :))

Anyway, to call it supported:

  1. Launcher!!! Because of MP assets and all the stuff!

  2. Downloadable binaries for Canonical.

Good to know thanks! (I deleted - will try later).

Cross-compiling for on Win32 was long but it did work for me. Granted is not development, but it’s something. That the Launcher is not available in is really a pity.

The source build never fails to build or randomly crashes on a release version, in our experience. All Windows releases of UE4 have included a game binary since 2018, to make cross-building for easier ; so obviously the matching source version will build. If you’ve used the master branch of the repo, rest assured it rarely works on Windows either.

The launcher should definitely be supported for too, and it’s a pity that it doesn’t, but that shouldn’t stop you from working on , especially with Ubuntu.
