Landscape Painting - crashes entire PC

I was working in a project today (4.14.0) and got to the point of making my landscape. I created a basic 3 map material setup - using LandscapeCoords->Texture->LandscapeLayer(3 inputs)->MaterialInput

I switched my landscape to use this material in the details panel when landscape was selected.

I opened my Landscape Editor and went to Paint. All 3 of my layers i made showed up with 0 LandscapeData in the dropdown (as expected). When I click on the + icon to make a data layer, it freezes my computer.

I THEN tried this into a blank fresh UE4 project with starter content - replicating the exact same setup with 3 textures from the starter content. Low & behold - it froze my computer again…

If you need any other information (DirectX or Video drivers specs/info) please let me know!

Could you provide me with your ‘dxdiag’ and your crash logs from the crash, attached in your response?

I just attempted to test this on my end, but did not get the same results. Perhaps some screenshots of your material and where you are freezing exactly will provide some more insight?

Just to clarify - i opened a brand new 4.13 project as well and this works fine - same exact setup.

And for further diagnosis - my computer doesnt freeze - i was in teamspeak with some friends talking about a game and I was actually able to talk while all of this was happening… but my keyboard/mouse was unresponsive. all my display was unresponsive (I couldnt see teamspeak flashing up when people were talking).

As a last result - i moved all my content over to 4.13 version file - where i an safely paint landscape layers without having bugs freezing my computer. Not sure what it all is - i’ve updated graphics drivers as well made sure DirectX is updated… all windows updates are current. My last effort is to grab 4.14 source and build engine - will update ticket as appropriate.

So, unless you can reproduce this in a new blank project within 4.14, there is not much I can do in the way of entering this as a bug report.

I’ve attempted to reproduce the issue on my end, but to no avail. Make sure there are not any shaders attempting to compile while you are painting.

This is not resolved in 4.14 LAUNCHER version of UE4 - however in a 4.14.2 SOURCE build of the engine it works as designed… not crashing.
