Unreal Engine 4.14.1 prerequisites won't install

I’m trying to install UE 4.14.1 for almost 2 hours yet when done installing i get a message saying that it failed to install the prerequisites with the following: “The necessary prerequisites have failed to install”. I’m using epic game launcher, windows 7 and tried to instal directX from the launcher files. Any ideas?

the only thing i would recommend is, once you’re using windows 7 just make sure you have the service pack 1, unreal doesn’t works in windows 7 without the service pack.

if you’re not sure if you have or not service pack 1 installed, just go to your control panel and then click in “system”, if you have SP1 installed it will show “service pack 1” under the “windows edition” tab, otherwise it will just show “windows 7 ultimate (or professional or whatever) copyright…”

if you don’t have the service pack you can download it here:
https://www.microsoft.com/pt-br/download/details.aspx?id=5842 (the file you’re looking for should be windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe supposing you’re using a 64 bit version)

you can also download it through windows update

if you have SP1 and still have trouble i don’t know how to help you

Ok and the same with Windows 8?

Ok guys i checked it out and i do have SP1 and i even tried downloading 4.13.2 instead but it won’t work. the prerequisites won’t install. Any suggestions? ;-;

Hi NeologismT,

At this point I suggest going to: http://help.epicgames.com

We have modified the process for how we handle Launcher issues. Here you will find information and solutions for common issues, as well as a contact form if you still need additional assistance.

Thanks,

This happened to me too. Tuned out i had some window wanting to restart my computer, or something.

I restarted, tried again, and this time a number of popups showed asking me to allow the installer to isntall stuff. didnt happen the first time around. Now it worked fine.

So try to restart you machine?

What do you do if you’re on Windows 10?
