how do i make a skeletal mesh shatter? like in superhot
- Create a humanoid figure as you normally would, and do all of your animations.
- Export the body parts (which can be broken) individually as Static meshes and make them distructibles.
- Remove those same parts from your figure mesh before you export it (and the animations) for use in UE4.
(so you are importing just animations without the breakable body parts) - Create the character using the ‘empty’ skeletal mesh - and add the destructible meshes of each body part, parenting them to the respective bones.
You end up with a character that looks/moves normally but the body parts are actually DMs attached to an empty skeleton rather than the body mesh itself.
