Particle lights not working since 4.14?

I have explosion particle systems that use a single light attached to a mesh and since upgrading, the lights no longer work. I tried making new particle systems, checking HQ lights, attaching to particles instead of meshes, changing radius and brightness, but no light is emitted.

I hadn’t looked at it when the lights were working, but when I check “Preview Light Radius” in Cascade, there’s no wireframe sphere. Anyone else having this problem?

Hi MXultra,

I can confirm that the light module still works in 4.14.3. Could you provide a test asset or a screenshot so I may test a particle system similar to yours.

In the top screen, you can see the explosion lights up the surrounding environment.

The light is attached to a mesh and the settings are there on the right.

I need a bit of clarification on a few things:

  • Can you reproduce this issue in a blank project?
  • How are you spawning the particle system?
  • Is the particle system that is using the light module attached to a static mesh?

Here is the list of steps for the test that I ran:

  • Open blank project (for desktop on high quality settings)
  • Add particle system and open
  • In the particle system add light module
  • Add static mesh in scene and attach particle system as child by dragging it onto the static mesh in the world outliner.
  • Increase the light brightness and radius for better visibility

After running this test I confirmed lights were still working for me. You may need to do some testing on your end to narrow down the issue. Another option is to provide a problematic asset that reproduces the issue.

We have not heard back from you in a few days, so we are marking this post as Resolved for tracking purposes. If you are still experiencing the issue you reported, please respond to this message with additional information and we will follow up.

In case anyone else has this problem: It turned out it was a matter of clearing the cache.
