Minimizing UE4 Bug

I dont know if its just me but whenever i have UE4 minimised for a long time, it wont maximise again and doesnt respond. To solve this i have to close it via task manager. Is this an ongoing bug? Ive got 16gb RAM 1333Mhz so i know im good from that end.

Hi Ed, leaving it a good few hours usually causes the issue. My PC is setup to always be on the highest performance so it never goes to sleep. Cant imagine any other factors. At times it would be just UE4 minimized and it would still happen.

Hi KHM3dia,

You may need to narrow things down a bit as I haven’t experienced this issue myself. You say this it takes a long time, could you clarify if this is an hour or several hours. Have you noticed any other factors coming into play. For example does the computer/monitor go to sleep and when you wake it up the engine doesn’t respond.

I will attempt to test this but I may need a bit more to go off of in order to be successful.

Okay, I haven’t reproduced this issue nor has anyone at my office. Could you provide your DxDiag?

To do this open your windows command prompt and enter dxdiag.

When the window appears save all information and attach the generated file in this post.

It sounds like the engine is getting hung up. To make sure this isn’t project specific could you do the following:

  • Open a blank project for desktop on high quality settings
  • Minimize and leave alone for a few hours
  • If the engine wont respond give it approx 5-10 min and let me know if it recovered or if it is still stuck

Were you able to test a blank project?

Also, I forgot to ask but is this issue unique to 4.14 for you?

We have not heard back from you in a few days, so we are marking this post as Resolved for tracking purposes. If you are still experiencing the issue you reported, please respond to this message with additional information and we will follow up.

I’m also having this issue. I’ll try and watch out for triggers. I have a hunch that (for me) it’s when other apps are open that use 3D viewports eg Quixel/Substance and possibly locking out the application. May be worth noting the UE4 thumbnail on the taskbar also disappears. Windows still gives a preview of the editor if you minimize all other windows (however windowskey+d doesn’t work and you have to minimize manually).

I haven’t seen this behavior personally, could you verify if this happens with only specific applications?

Also, if you are able to reproduce this consistently could you provide a detailed list of steps that leads to the issue. ,

Ed
