How come unreal engine 4 hangs after every action?

Maybe a missing redist or driver? I never had this issue and my PC can barely handle the engine

Basically whenever I do any sort of action in UE4 it hangs for about 4-5 seconds then resumes performance.
simply opening up the file menu makes it hang. very frustrating. Switching from terrain sculpt to select tool makes it hang. ANYTHING…
My PC’s specs can more than handle your little engine and should not have these issues.

I have reinstalled the engine many times and updated my drivers. Nothing seems to be out of date.

what are your pc specs? What it sounds like is you are topping out on some aspect of your pc, I say this of course because I have never seen this problem except for not enough power. I don’t know if you are opening the kite demo, if you are to open up the whole map requires about 25GB of ram.

Yes of course 16gb of ram, an i7 6700HQ and a gtx 1060 isn’t enough to highlight a simple button without freezing the whole thing.

Are you running the Geforce Experience software from Nvidia? That piece of software is almost infamous for interfering with the unreal engine.

Should i disable geforce experience or uninstall it completely? First i’ll try 4.13 and if that doesn’t work I’ll try your solution  thanks

My 2 drives are brand new, treated myself a little this christmas lol. Everything is new on my pc. I’ll definitetly try 4.13 first and ill comme back with the results. Thanks all for the support :)!

I’m using the same and have no problems except for frame counter sometimes flickers in middle of screen, but I have seen people saying there is a memory leak in 4.14 right now, try using 4.13 and see if you have the same problem if so I don’t know how old you hard drive is, but it my be ending its life and has slow read/write speed now.

and a heads up a beefy video card does nothing towards the engine except for when you are actually playing your game so something might work smooth on your strong card while run terribly on a weaker card.

Good luck with the test, because I’m running 4.12 with no problem with my GTX970 with GeForce experience installed, and the overlay on. When the overlay first came out it broke double click to open on the engine but that has been fixed

It is not necessary to uninstall it. You should try to disable options that interfere with other software like the Share option, for example. But you should also try other options if that does not work. Approaching this systematicly is probably a good idea.

It might sound strange, but try to close down all the applications you have on the background.
Think of Skype, Steam, Discord, Photoshop, anything that might use your GPU while they are not in focus.

Also check in your Taskmanager to see if you have wierd applications running that you don’t know about.
The cause may not be in Unreal Engine 4 but somewhere else. Especially with the rig you say you have you shouldn’t have these problems.

If the problems still occur, try to see if other programs display frame drops like newer games. UE4 isn’t a lightweight program like many like to believe.

I don’t know how old your current OS installation is, but if its older then a year, consider to reinstall your OS. You never know what kind of trash remains in the background (even with defragmentation, cleaning tools as CC-Cleaner, or other optimization tools).

I come back with great news, i disabled the share option and everything is smooth! Thanks for you and everyone who helped

That is good news indeed! Glad I could help!
