Search help

  • Simple searches use one or more words. Separate the words with spaces (cat dog) to search cat,dog or both. Separate the words with plus signs (cat +dog) to search for items that may contain cat but must contain dog.
  • You can further refine your search on the search results page, where you can search by keywords, author, topic. These can be combined with each other. Examples
    • cat dog --matches anything with cat,dog or both
    • cat +dog --searches for cat +dog where dog is a mandatory term
    • cat -dog -- searches for cat excluding any result containing dog
    • [cats] —will restrict your search to results with topic named "cats"
    • [cats] [dogs] —will restrict your search to results with both topics, "cats", and "dogs"

Does the new Media Framework work in HTML5 projects?

Hi everyone, I want to create a game for HTML5 and want to use the media framework. I found some posts from 2014 where they mentioned that the media framework does not work on HTML5 projects and now I wanted to know if this limitation still exists or if the MF is now available for HTML5 projects. Or Is there an other way to show movies in game?

I'm afraid that we still do not have an HTML5 player plug-in yet. It's on the to-do list for this year, but it probably won't happen before GDC.

Hi there gmpreussner.

So what is the status on this issue?

I've tested it with the V4.17.1 In the editor and a standalone game and it worked like it should, but after packaging to HTML5 nothing happened (the video panel remained black) and I see no additional request to the video url in the firefox network tab of firebug.

Please, can you give some infos?

Today I've got the email about the release of the new V4.18 Engine version and there are lots of improvements in it, also for the media framework, but unfortunately not in conjunction with HTML5. I've tested it today and the video streaming still doesn't work with a html5 build.

Any infos on this? Is it planned for the v4.19?

No update yet. An HTML5 based media player is on the to-do list, but there is no set schedule for it yet.

Thanks for the info, gmpreussner! But that's a bit sad news for now. I've tested it also with the Unity engine and their MovieTexture is also not implemented for WebGL yet, but they have a workaround which works and I've made a Video Player with it with a html5 build. However, this workaround is not future save and Unity is not Unreal. So now I am a bit loss with planing my project further....

Anyhow, thanks again for your reply and thanks to all of the staff for the hard work and the fantastic Unreal Engine.

Hi there gmpreussner.

Now its some time elapsed and I am still curious about the progress on this HTML5 based media player. ATM I haven't any UE installed, so I can't test it and I am not familiar with the latest updates since V4.18.

Are there any updates on this topic yet?
