Reimport the "failed import" fbx

Hi,

I’m not sure if this is a bug or I;m doind something wrong.

I wanted to import my character to UE4. But the import failed due to some strange errors, eg mutliple roots.

So i checked my character and exported it again. Now that I want to import it, it asks if I wand to replace the existing files? But there are no imported files. When I choose Yes, the message bar appers “Done!(100%)” and UE4 freeze. Cannot close. Have to kill from task manager.

Am I doing something wrong? Do i have to relaunch every time I want to import the same file?

Hi MegaJuzwa,

You should not have to relaunch the engine every time you want to import the same file. It should just ask if you want to replace it, click yes and proceed. It will then update the original file.

Would you be willing to attach your asset with the multiple roots here for FBX import testing or a similar object you can create the same issue with?

Thank you!

Tim

Hi MegaJuzwa,

Since I’ve not heard back from you in a few days I’m going to mark this as resolved for tracking purposes. If you’re still having the issue please post here and I’ll look further into it.

Thank you!

Tim

I am also getting this problem.
The editor fails to import the FBX, shows no imported files. Importing the adjusted FBX from the same file also fails but this time crashes the editor when choosing ‘overwrite’. No idea why it offers to overwrite a mesh it never imported.
This happens for me with a CAT rig.
In UDK I would put my CAT RIG on a different layer from the mesh and hide it, and set all the objects properties to Layer. Then I would export just the mesh. In UE4, that doesn’t help at all.

I am using an FBX autorigged using Mixamo which has had their AutoCAT script run on it. Maybe for some reason the raw bones are still in there…

I fixed my problem at least.
Hope it helps others.
