Search help

  • Simple searches use one or more words. Separate the words with spaces (cat dog) to search cat,dog or both. Separate the words with plus signs (cat +dog) to search for items that may contain cat but must contain dog.
  • You can further refine your search on the search results page, where you can search by keywords, author, topic. These can be combined with each other. Examples
    • cat dog --matches anything with cat,dog or both
    • cat +dog --searches for cat +dog where dog is a mandatory term
    • cat -dog -- searches for cat excluding any result containing dog
    • [cats] —will restrict your search to results with topic named "cats"
    • [cats] [dogs] —will restrict your search to results with both topics, "cats", and "dogs"

In 4.14.3 I am unable to launch the engine, getting the attached error. I cannot find anything to solve this.

So...are you using an OculusRift?

BNS Max gravatar image BNS Max Jan 11 '17 at 06:31 PM

No, I've never owned one, but this error keeps occurring and I cannot load the engine.

project.gheist gravatar image project.gheist Jan 11 '17 at 06:36 PM

You can try disabling the plugin (open UE4\Engine\Plugins\Runtime\OculusRift\OculusRift.uplugin and change EnabledByDefault to false) or add the following to your *.uproject file which prevents the plugin from loading:

 (optional comma if the Plugins section doesn't exist yet in your JSON file)
 "Plugins": [
         {
             "Name": "OculusRift",
             "Enabled": false
         }
 ]

Using the first option stopped that error, but caused a crash.

How did you get your build? Unreal Launcher, build from Github source, ... ? It seems like you are missing certain files.

Just from the main website.

Hello BNS Max,

Could you try verifying your engine version and let me know if this helps? I have provided an example below that shows how to verify your engine.

Example:

Nobody else got a suggestion?

Rudy Triplett gravatar image Rudy Triplett ♦♦ STAFF Jan 12 '17 at 04:49 PM

I noticed that you were receiving a crash. Does this crash occur even when opening a clean project or is this an issue with a certain project in particular? Also could you provide the complete callstack (including machine ID)?

BNS Max gravatar image BNS Max Jan 12 '17 at 05:13 PM

I have absolutely no projects, I have never been able to open the engine. I'll just get the callstack now.

Hello BNS Max,

Could you insure that your graphics drives are up to date? Could you provide your dxdiag as well?

Edit:

Could you also try launching the editor directly and let me know if this is possible? I have provided an example path below. Yours may vary depending on where you stored the engine.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Epic Games\4.14\Engine\Binaries\Win64

Once there you will want to use UE4Editor.exe

I'd like to thank you all for your help, it would seem that this was a problem with my PC itself. Over the past few weeks there have been minor issues with it but yesterday my video drivers just crashed and stopped responding, I redownloaded my DX9 files for system32 and it fixed all of my issues (including the engine). I apologise for wasting your time, but thank you for the help nonetheless

Hi there I get a similar phenomenon - I upgraded yesterday evening from 4.14.2. to 4.14.3, and now 4.14.3 does not work any more. I went so far as to remove all versions and to remove the epic launcher and to install everything from scratch, but 4.14.3 continues to crash, while the old version 4.13.2, which I reinstalled as well, does work fine.

Before yesterday evening everything worked fine in 4.14.2 - what the hell, I have a client presentation today....

Any ideas would be welcome

Mischa

I just submitted a feature request to be able to downgrade in the launcher. This breakage has been happening too much.

I don't know of anything you can do other than grab a different computer where it's working, or compile from source (which can take quite awhile).
