UnrealEngine Editor and Synergy issue

I use Synergy on 2 machines (client/server) - keyboard of mbp and bt-magic-mouse or usb mouse connected to that macbook pro (rarely touchpad). It helps save time, shared clipboard, coding and etc.

Specially for Unreal Engine (runs on mac pro) my problem is mouse controls in viewport and right click still buggy, hold mouse buttons and drag doesn’t works. Its impossible to use of UE remotely via synergy w/o mouse. That problem still on UE only. Photoshop, Maya, Zbrush, Substance Painter and 99% apps/games works through synergy, but UEditor doesn’t… :frowning:
Keyboard of client and mouse of server doesn’t work together (like key and hold mouse) as well.

So, what i did/do specially for UE every job-session until now without synergy:

  1. I open UE project from network drive (macpro owned) on macbook pro. Work only with single display.

  2. If single display is not enough then i disconnecting big display from macpro, connect special thunderbolt>hdmi adapter to macbook pro and connect big display to macbook pro. As result performance littlebit reduced with second 4k monitor. But its OK if dont use 2+ viewports etc.

  3. If its not OK for performance (2+ viewports, realtime profiling or just testing quality image i have PLAN C > i just move to mac pro (reconnect display, keyboard and mouse every time)


Looks like hell and waste time sometimes with that “games” with hardware, wires and connect/disconnections :frowning: That discomfort i feel only with UE on macs. Then I report that issues to synergy github and they says “problem is in UE”.

I tried to use synergy on every new UE release beginning from v4.8 until now, but nothing changed for mac version… I think problem is macos-specific “mouse handle events” which hardcoded in UEditor / Slate UI. Not sure.

I can provide any information which can help to explain that problem (video, screenshots or text explanation). But PLEASE anybody, engineers, please fix that one for macs. Please.

PS: I dont use windows OS so much. Sometimes i run windows from VM like Parallels or VirtualBox only for specific apps like ‘3dsmax’ if need for some reason but Maya is the best for me. So I use only OSX and Debian.

There is a known software conflict between UE4 and Synergy (A new, community-hosted Unreal Engine Wiki - Announcements - Epic Developer Community Forums) causing navigation issues on client PC. Unfortunately we do not have a workaround for this conflict. You can check the forums (https://forums.unrealengine.com/) for others who may have found other ways to work around the issue, however the best way to avoid the issues currently would be to uninstall Synergy / not use UE4 and Synergy in conjunction.

I was checked UE 4.15 (latest) on Macs with synergy. And i was surprised - synergy works fine!

Can you find that person who fixed it? I have UE gift (model) for him. He can ask my models from me for free. Good job.

I had this same problem. I’m running Synergy 1.10 on a Windows server with an Ubuntu 18.04 client. I’m trying to run the UE Editor on the Ubuntu client (v. 4.20.2 currently).

My work around was to enable “relativeMouseMoves” in the server config, and then locking the cursor to the Ubuntu client screen when using the camera controls within the UE editor.
