Uproject file right click "Generate Project files" missing

I can see the uproject file, but it was not associated with Unreal 4, so I went ahead and associated it with Unreal Engine 4. But now I can’t see any options for “Generate Project Files” in the right click menu.

Also this did not work for me.

Hi ,

I have a few quick questions for you.

  • When you said that you associated the .uproject file with Unreal Engine, were the right-click options available to you before you completed the association? If not, how did you do this step?
  • What, if anything, happens when you double-click the .uproject file?
  • Does the project appear in the Editor’s Project Browser window when you launch the Editor?

I was experiencing a problem in code that made me want to delete the binaries and intermediate folder, so I did. So then I was going to “generate Project files” on the uproject file. This prompted me to select a program to open the selected file with. I did a search and found some stuff on associating the uproject file, so I tried this. I did so through going to Control Panel\Programs\Default Programs\Set Associations\ and associating the file manually with unreal editor. Unfortunately this made the problem worse. Now when right clicking there was no option at all to “generate project files”. Out of frustration I uninstalled UE4.14 and installed 4.15 preview (it had not released yet). Everything built fine and upon migrating my previous project to the new version, I still had no option to “generate project files”. So I uninstalled 4.15, and decided to go an extreme route of manually searching through my registry and deleting Epic, and Unreal related entries. Sucked because I had to make sure that I wasn’t deleting import stuff so it took me a little while. Anyhow, after deleting all of the entries and reinstalling UE4 4.14 the problem was solved. Fun…To be fair, and offer up a potential source of the problem, I believe my CMOS battery was dying. I’ve had a bizarre 50/ 50 slowness on my pc where when in task manager, selecting options is extremely slow. This behavior was noticed inside visual studio with my Visual assist taking a horrendous amount of time to rename a function or change signature. My PC setup is a high end gaming rig, and I’m pretty thorough with MalwayreBytes and Avast. No detections when windows was booted in Safe Mode. Then I noticed my time and date were incorrect. I’ve ordered a new CMOS battery, and in the meantime I’m only putting pc into sleep mode, so I’ll know more in a couple days when I’ve reinstalled fresh CMOS battery.

Hi ,

I am glad to hear that you seem to have things back under control. If you run into this issue again, please let us know.

I am having the same issue here: uproject files are not associated to any application, so the icon is generic and right click on the icon only brings the basic windows menu up. I tried uninstalling the UEngine versions I had installed and uninstall the Epic Launcher as well, but it was a no go.
Before anyone tells me, I have installed Visual Studio first and then Epic Launcher.
I have two pc’s: on one of them everything runs smooth, on the other, which has been assembled and installed this week, I have the issue.
Any suggestion aside from a full reinstall?

Hi I meet the same problem with a very new computer (Ryzen 9, RTX 3060, 32 GO Ram). The menu doesn’t appear after right click. Any solution? I also tried the association but it doesn’t work
