[Request] Smart InterpActors

One thing that I keep asking myself is if Maya can animate non-bone objects, why can’t Rocket?

It would serve Rocket to be less procedural and more intuitive by giving special treatment to non-bone actors that possess curve animation data in them. First thing the engine would do when it sees an object with animation data is to recognize if an asset has bone data in it. If it does, the engine reads it in as a skeletalmesh with animation and all the usual special treatment that entails. However, if it doesn’t, the engine will automatically convert the actor into an interpactor, and treat the curve animations as Matinee movement data (InterpData?).

In all, I’d like to not have to make an explicit conversion to an interpactor class if the engine already possesses the innate ability to read this sort of thing from an FBX file.

Hi Markus,

I have created a report for your feature request and submitted it into our feedback database. Thank you for your input. If there is anything else that you would like included in a future build of Rocket, please let us know.

Thanks,

Alexander
