Unreal EXE does not run on one PC win10

Hello there

I’m having issues with running my exe file on one PC.

I used the project named “Blueprints” from the Learn section on epic Launcher.
I placed few objects and a bit of code - to make it work with my HTC Vive - and it runs without issues on my own machine - but does never start on another debug machine.
Then I tried just a simple new project - with same result - I can not get it running on this other machine.
I previously tried testing exporting and running a Unity exe file without any issues on this machine.

The game simply never starts - and never show any screen or anything on that second pc - but on my first machine it runs fine. The machines are setup both with win 10 pro - etc.

I tried a few things - like making sure that everything was included, if it was debug, development or shipping - including perquisites etc.

We also tried with Windows Defender disabled, all anti virus software diabled, and running as Administrator - without any result.

I’m not used to debugging neither unreal or windows - but I got some few dump files - like Windows CrashDumps, and also CrashContext.runtime-xml and UE4Minidump.dmp files.

All help is very aprcieated

Hi kafl,

From the few files you attached, the game is experiencing an assert, most likely a variable being null. Please attach the logs and dumps for more information.

Cheers,

Dump

Thanks a lot - is this what you ask for?

Hello again - I hope I’m doing the right thing

Can you let me know what “assert” means - and where did you see this?
Also - do you have any idea why one machine allows this - but the other does not?

THanks a lot.

Hi kafl,

  1. Please list the specs of the Machine you are testing on.
  2. When you are testing on the second machine, are you sending the .exe in the enclosing folder, or just the executable by itself? If by itself, try sending and launching the executable from within the enclosing folder.
  3. Cut and paste the contents of your output log into a text folder and post as an attachment here.

Thanks,

Thanks a lot for getting back to me

  1. I will send you the specs asap. Maybe it is SLI graphics… but i will get back soon.

  2. Im zipping and sending the folder WindowsNoEditor for testing on this other machine - i hav tried few other ways - but with no luck. I run the Exe file from within that folder. But do you suggest that i send the entire folder - including project etc.?

  3. The one who test does not send me any .log files - im guessing there are no log files on that machine?

  4. One last thing - i just noticed that the two projects that im testing on this machine - are both with a _ in the project name - the one was a simple test i did and project was named Simple_test - is the _ maybe causing issues?

  5. I got few other unreal exe files that i will send for testing also. Just to compare.

Thanks you very much for explaining helping and getting back to me.

Best regards
Karsten

the specs are

Intel Core i5-6600K @ 3.5 GHz
16 GB ram
GeForce GTX 1060
Windows 10 Pro 64-bit

You do not have to send the Project files to your tester, just wanted to make sure you were sending the WindowsNoEditor folder and having them launch from within the folder. If you want you can send a link to your (zipped) packaged project to me on our and I’ll take a look.

Also helpful would be the output log from the Editor from when you packaged the game. You can reproduce this by packaging the game and cutting and pasting the contents from the Output log to a text file and posting here.

link text

hello again - thanks a lot.

I have attached 2 output logs in the text file.
If this gives us nothing i will post a link also

Here is a problem I found in your logs:

-TargetPlatform=WindowsNoEditor -fileopenlog -unversioned -NativizeAssets -abslog="C:\Program Files (x86)\Epic Games\4.14\Engine\Pro
grams\AutomationTool\Saved\Cook-2017.02.25-09.30.22.txt" -stdout -FORCELOGFLUSH -CrashForUAT -unattended -UTF8Output

As a troubleshooting step, try packaging without nativisation. There have been a couple of reports of problems using nativisation in UE4.15, so it may be the issue here.

Let me know if this does not resolve the issue.

Thanks for the answer.
But to answer myself - It seemed very much like it was windows seeing it as malware/virus.

The person that got the file - downloaded it on mac - and transferred it on disk/loca network to the pc wit win 10.
This meant that windows saw as malware.

When he instead downloaded and opened the zipped files on windows 10 - it worked fine.

So - if you have this same issue make sure it is not moved across mac - or at leas test if it works while downloaded directly on windows.
