Cannot import morph targets with skeletal mesh

Hello,

When I try to import morph targets using the latest version of the Editor. They don’t import, even though I checked to import morph targets.

I tried in a new project as well. The same result.

The same *.FBX file imports fine in 4.14 version of the editor.

I have the same issue with 4.15. The first import does not work. However if the mesh is already imported and you hit that “Reimport mesh” button in Persona then all morph-targets are imported (just tried again on a new project).

Yes I can confirm that. I imported a mesh with 4.14 and then migrated it to my 4.15 project. After that, if I hit reimport, everything works fine, and also animations import as well.

Hit the same problem, used the same solution.

Hi Chroman,

I’m having trouble reproducing this with some test assets that I’ve created. Could you send an fbx file that you’re seeing this on? You can PM me a download link on the forums if you’d like to keep it private.

I’ve attached a simple sphere mesh fbx with one bone and one morph. New project import. First time no morph. Second time morph is imported but not shown in the window… anyway you see in the preview already morph is there (because there is an warning regarding the material). Third window shows the morph (after close and reopen the window again - without a further reimport).

Hi Neutronux,

The likely reason no morphs were imported the first time is because you didn’t enable “Import Morph Targets”. The reason you’re seeing it on reimport is because of UE-42846. After that bug is fixed, you’ll need to ensure that you enable “Import Morph Targets” from the import section in the Skeletal Mesh Details panel.

Yes I did. First thing I checked.

Hi ,

If you request some example it would be really, really, really nice if you finally try it. How would you feel yourself in such a case? I’ve just tried again and of course it did not import the morph targets. You have everything you need to reproduce that bug and I wished my customers would be so kind and spend their time to upload me all that stuff as well that way. Do you really think all the guys that are reporting that bug are just too confused to activate that import flag? It’s off by default so I think everybody that imported morph targets at least once in the past should know where he can find it and would check this before asking (and as you can read in the first post the initial author of this thread even made sure he activated it as well). But even consuming (wasting) more of my time… yet another set of screenshots of today repro steps:

Hey Neutronux,

Thanks for following up. I’m sorry for any confusion. I tested with your fbx file and came up with different results than what you’re seeing. I’ve linked a video showing the result of my test. The only case that came up with the same results that you reported was with “Import Morphs” disabled.

The example fbx attached to the bug that I linked is your fbx file. It was a bug that I found while testing this out. It would appear that there are two bugs popping up here, but one that I cannot reproduce.

Did you even try it with a blank fresh project and default 4.15 (as it seems your project is already full with imports and your import settings are already changed when they come up first time). I’ve just tried a further time, blank new project, no starter content, this time via drag and drop from a folder (as you did the same) instead of using the import button at the content browser just to check if there is any difference but it’s still perfectly reproduceable (no morphs first time).

Looks like it was Import Animations that was causing the morphs to import correctly. I honestly have no idea why, but that was it. Thanks for the help reproducing it.

See UE-43058.

Hi, sadly it doesn’t matter if I import animations or not, the morph target won’t show up anymore in new engine versions.

Hey gstyczen,

Just realized this was your thread before my last response in another thread. Anyways, I just imported your original test object (without “Import Animations” enabled) into latest 4.16. It imported with the working morph targets. Is this still occurring for you in 4.16.1?

I confirm that one as well.
