Does fundraising for a nonprofit require royalty payment?

We’re starting up a project to fundraise for a childrens’ centre in Africa using VR to visualize the planned structures and environment. I’ve read through the FAQ and EULA, but am still unsure of what applies in this case.

Do the underlined parts in the following quote mean that any use for architectural visualization for presentation/marketing purposes is free of royalties? (So, can we for example sell tickets to an event where this is used as the main attraction without owing royalties (assuming we pass $3000 in donations?))

Are any revenue sources royalty-free?

Yes! The following revenue sources are royalty-free:

Ancillary products, including t-shirts, CDs, plushies, action figures and books. The exception is items with embedded data or information, such as QR codes, that affect the operation of the product.
Consulting and work-for-hire services using the engine. This applies to architects using the engine to create visualizations as well as consultants receiving a development fee.
Non-interactive linear media, including movies, animated films and cartoons distributed as video.
Amusement park rides and live installations.
Truly free games and apps (with no associated revenue).

Do you already know the connection between use of UE4 and the fundraising? It sounds like you won’t be selling a VR project or selling access to a VR project, but I want to make sure.

We haven’t set the details yet, but one suggestion is to sell tickets for experiencing the VR walkthrough. Does this make a difference compared to having just donations (but the VR walkthrough still being a main attraction)?

Excellent, then it seems like UE is the perfect tool for this project. Thank you for you quick reply!

Ticket fees for access to a live installation are royalty free. Pure donations are also royalty free (so long as the donations don’t grant product access or some kind of in-product benefit that you wouldn’t get without the donation).
