Multiple UV's On One Actor

Hi there,

Is it possible to apply multiple UV’s to one character in unreal? So, I’m making a guy in ZBrush to play in an animated film rendered in Unreal, and I want his texture quality to look as good as can be. Is it possible to apply multiple UV’s (one with his head, another with his torso, and eyes etc) in order to make each section really sharp and crisp? Instead of having one UV map for his entire body (because even at 4K the texture quality won’t be as high as 4K for separate components).

Thanks!

your question would get this result:
yea you can. you can have up to eight uv-channels afaik.
depending on the complexity each uv-channel each channel would take a few kilobytes up to a few hundred.

The answer you are probably expecting:
Yes, you can. you can have as many materials on a mesh as you want (be sure to set it up properly in zbrush/max/blender/whatever (google "tool of choice multisub material)
if its for an animated film the additional drawcalls wouldnt be too much of a bother.

Okay, thank you! I’ll do some research into multisub materials.

be sure to set the answer as “accepted” if you find its satisfactory. that way people in the future (hiya! future me.) can easily find the answer
