Static meshes assets that I import have no material fields on them.

Hello folks. I have a weird problem. I make a model in 3ds max 2016 and I exported it as .FBX. After I import that FBX to unreal engine, I don’t have a material assignment field showing in that mesh object. I cannot assign materials to it. There is no material field. Has anyone had this problem before? Is my mesh is broken? I am attaching here my model file.

The model is an editable spline with extrude on it. I convert it to editable poly or editable mesh before exporting.

Collapse your mesh to an editable poly, and then put a standard material on it from the material editor in max, and re-export. The material slot should now show up, but you’ll need to actually unwrap the model as well.

I am little bit beginner to modelling. What is unwrapping?

You have to unwrap models so that they can have textures mapped to them.
Here is a tutorial on it.

If you are just going to have a solid color on your model, then you wouldn’t really need to unwrap it, but you will need to at some point.

Assinging a default material from max did the trick. Thank you my friend.
