4.2.1 Update Launcher Bug

I’ve downloaded 4.2.1 and can launch the editor, but the launcher window still displays that my version is out of date. I can clearly see the updated version number on the splash screen of the editor. Is this a graphical glitch or should I be concerned about a failed update? I’ve downloaded the 4.2.1 update twice and each time the verify process completes.

Thanks

The problem with the launcher is that it needs to be run as administrator to overwrite the previously installed version. Right-click the launcher shortcut, click “compatibility” tab, and check “run this program as administrator.”
Now, you need to launch, and update, and then the update will “stick.”

Have exactly same issue, moreover the installed marketplace items are shown as not installed while can be normally opened from editor. Seems to be clear bug in launcher.

Hey Folks,

Sorry for the launcher problems today. Answering in order:

  1. JDuaneJ - The Engine shows the wrong version?
The problem is a display issue and not a failed update. We are working on a hotfix we hope to have live tomorrow that will correct this.

  2. Alexey - Why does the Marketplace not show content I previously downloaded?
From the forum Post: With the old launcher, all content was downloaded directly into a project which you would modify directly. With the new launcher, content is separated into vault downloads vs. projects. You can continue to use the previously downloaded projects, but the launcher marketplace does not recognize previously downloaded content until you re-download them into your Vault. … We didn’t want to have the launcher move or disrupt a project in progress so all previous downloads were treated as Projects by the updated launcher.

Let us know if you encounter or see any other problems.

Thanks,
Adam

Thank you, Adam. I overlooked the article about the changes in new launcher and completely missed the point behind the Vault idea, now I got it. It really brilliant solution. Thank you again,

Thanks for the tip, I tried this and it works as you described on win7.

Not working for on windows 8.1

I did this on Windows 8.1 and it worked for me. Make sure you’re using an account that allows administrator privilege escalation, and that you turn off anti-virus blocking before you run the update. Also make sure that you actually get and answer the dialog saying “do you want to allow this program to make changes to your computer” when you start the updater – if you don’t get that, something’s wrong in the configuration and it won’t work.
