Odd dark shading / shadowing / AO ?

Hello everyone,

I’ve been having an issue with an archvis type project. The lighting looks absolutely fine everywhere but this particular mesh with rounded edges keeps receiving a lot of dark shading in flat areas which should be lit uniformly. I’ve completely redone the lightmap UVs, altered the smoothing/normal directions and have tried different ligthmass/AO settings. I’ve been trying to figure out if this is being caused by DFAO but have not been able to find a solution. Does anybody recognize this problem or know a possible solution?

If you have DFAO enabled, try toggling your Cast Shadows variable on your skylight and see if you notice any difference. Alternatively, take a peek at your post process volume in the AO settings and try turning the Ambient Occlusion intensity all the way down to see if that’s the culprit.

Thank you for your comment! I experimented with the Cast Shadows, but without it I was getting illumination in areas where I didn’t need it. I do think it’s the AO going crazy with the corners. Eventually I decided to replace those meshes entirely which solved the biggest shading issues. :slight_smile:
