I have been making my game for about a year now, and my biggest problem is grass DESTROYING my fps, or any foliage in that case, i have shut all shadows off in foliage, i try to use as less foliage as i can without looking too bare, my map isnt TOO big, but it still just destroys fps. ANY tips, tricks, or even hunches on how to optimize foliage a bit more, that would be great!!!
- Make sure that in your meshes almost no space is wasted for full transparency: UE4 Graphics Profiling: Pipeline and Bottlenecks - YouTube
- Is this a landscape foliage? Then consider using Grass Tool ( Grass Quick Start | Unreal Engine Documentation ), which has strong limitations but allows you to enable “Use Landscape Lightmaps” in grass type’s settings.
- Use Masked mode instead of Translucent (optionally: with a dithered mask, that is TemporalDitherAA node).
