[REQUEST] Sphere/Cube Reflection Capture feature

Sphere (and Cube) Reflection Captures doing good job, but in some situations it need more features. I mean, to select surfaces for chosen Sphere Reflection Capture only.

Two reasons:

  1. it will no gather for selected surface other reflections than from defined own Sphere Reflection Capture
  2. you can select different cubemap resolution for selected surface (for example highest for windows, lowest for floors etc)

It works well elsewhere and I miss it in Unreal Engine.

You can select any actor and uncheck “Visible in Reflection Capture”. Kind of the opposite of what you’re asking for since you’d have to disable it for all reflection captures, but an option.

For the per reflection capture resolution, I think that is on the perpetual “ToDo” list of things, but I’m not positive. I agree that would be generally good though.

Also, just to throw it out there, planar reflections can achieve what you’d like as well. You can enable that in the Project Settings and then you can select what actors are available to show in the reflection along with other rendering features.

I posted this request, because I worked on my test scene two days with Sphere/Cube Reflection Capture and as I see, only good solution would be customizable actor as requested. I have “some” mapping experiences in other engines where I don’t want back - many reasons, I’m very happy with UE, but I miss things like this. I used spheres like this a lot previously.

Disabling actor for reflections is not same, and planar reflections have just different functionality. I think option like this will be in engine faster or later, I hope faster :slight_smile:
