Unable to find userSetup.py within my UE_4.15 folders

I was trying to set up the Animation and Rigging Toolset. This is my first time downloading UE and I’ve downloaded the launcher, the engine, and then created a test project to make sure things were working. I went to this link “Animating Characters and Objects in Unreal Engine | Unreal Engine 5.1 Documentation” and followed the instructions.

I got to step 2 before I encountered my first problem. There was no file named userSetup.py. The only file in there was P4Python.tps.

I searched through these forums, and I haven’t seen anyone mentioning that they have had this problem, or if they have I wasn’t finding it with the search results that I entered. Over here “Animation and Rigging Tools: FAQ, Known Issues and Feature Roadmap - Character & Animation - Epic Developer Community Forums” There is a link to the dropbox by the creator which has this file along with many others. Towards the top of the thread it says “*NOTE: The above link does not contain the complete toolkit. It only has the latest scripts and icons. Please copy the contents to the original install location on your machine!”

Unfortunately, mine didn’t install into my machine. So that worries me, and makes me wonder if I’m missing any other files. In the launcher I had it verify my engine version 4.15.1, but it didn’t really seem to do anything.
However, in the dropbox, I found and installed the file “MayaTools”, and put it in the right folder (Epic Games\UE_4.15\Engine\Extras\Maya_AnimationRiggingTools). (Edit: Actually I’m now downloading all the files and am going to put them all in the same folder).
After that, I followed the rest of the steps and was able to get to step 5 without a problem. I have yet to test the tool to see if anything funky is going on.

I am making this post in hopes that it might help a few others who have had this problem, and possibly get help (I’m assuming this is a bug…unless there were additional steps I was supposed to do but was unaware of?). I’m not sure if I’m missing any other files.

Thanks for your time.

Hi RyanMJ,

The ARTv1 toolkit is now on the marketplace and is no longer included with engine builds since 4.15. You can locate it by searching “Artv1” on the Launcher Marketplace.

Thank you W!

I too had the same trouble. Very bad documentation from Unreal.
At the Marketplace, search for “artv1”
Also, you can find it here: ARTv1 in Epic Content,Code Plugins - UE Marketplace
I hope you don’t find any version incompatibility between the toolkit and the engine, as I did. As I said, very bad documentation!
